STAINED GLASS
After taking a stained glass workshop in the summer of 2019 I fell in love with the challenges and beauty of the medium and have been designing, creating, and selling pieces ever since. When designing for glass you have to break down an idea into the simplest shapes, account for how the glass will fracture, and consider how the finished product will look both lit and unlit.
My designs start as sketches which I bring into Adobe Illustrator to simplify through iteration making sure that there are no sharp concave shapes which are extremely difficult to cut out of glass. I then play with colors to decide what glass to use. Next, I print my design on transfer drafting film and use that to roughly cut out each shape. I then perfect each shape with a grinder until they fit like a seamless puzzle. Next, I wrap the edges of each piece with copper foil tape, then melt solder along the seams bonding the pieces together. Once the seams are complete I add wire detailing and a led came frame. Finally, the piece is cleaned, treated with patina, and polished.
