FLATPACK CHAIR

Design Challenge: Design a chair that can be water-jet cut from a single sheet of 48”x32” plywood, packaged in a 1” thick box, and easily assembled.

The flatpack chair was a collaborative project with designer Matthew Fainor. We developed our concept with iterative prototyping using cardstock and laser-cut particle board.

We developed a chair with gem-like geometry and hand-made metal fasteners. The seat is double-layers around the edges for stability and to create tapered edges for comfort. It brushed sheet metal detailing and hammered bolts marry the industrial materials and elegant design.
