CNC OAK BOWLS

Design Challenge: Create a reproducible product out of wood, felt, or sheet metal to be sold at ReFind, a furnishings, gifts, and fine art store, in Allentown, PA.

After experimenting with all three materials I chose to pursue a CNC’d wooden bowl made from a 3D scan of my cupped hands. My prototype was made from stacked plywood, and while the patterns resulting from the laminated wood were intriguing, I chose to use reclaimed hard wood for the final product for a sturdy feel and elegant finish.

Made from reclaimed oak and carved with a CNC router, HOLD combines nature and technology. The cracks are filled with copper leaf and resin and each bowl is unique and hand surfaced.
